Economic crunch

With the auto industry really struggling right now and money being tight, I was wondering if anyone has altered the amonut they drive or their opinions on fuel saving vehicles. I'm glad that the gas prices have come back down to somewhat resonable levels, becasue I'm not one to limit my drving just because of gas prices. As for hybrid type cars, I'm not sold on the idea. I like the fact that more cars will be using turbo charged engines, to save on fuel, but also keep the performance numbers up there.

Is tanning a permanent trend?

Although they seem to be evolving, tanning beds are be no means a new technology, but are they a permanent fixture in society for people who want that 'healthy' tanned look? I have become a believer in them over this past year. Prior to April of 2008, I had never used a tannng bed before, but had bashed them regardless. I decided to give them a try to establish a 'base' before going to Miami for a trip in May 2008. I decided to stay in a low level lay-down bed, which I increased my time from 8 to 15 minutes over @ 5 sessions. Although I did not get seriously tanned doing this, I did not burn in Miami and did not experience any peeling for the entire year. Currently I like to use a tanning bed at a level 3 for 15 minutes @ nce every 2 weeks (while living in Chicago) to maintain some color, which seems to allow me to deal better mentally with the winters (which I loathe).

In about 3 weeks, I'm going to be the daddy for a baby girl (named Alessandra). I was wondering if any first time moms or dads read a particular book to speed up the learning curve, or went to any parenting prep classes. I have not had much expereince with my younger cousins (did not want to change diapers..lol) and am not sure if I should read into some stuff or 'wing it' with the help of the mom (who is knowledgeable about that kind of stuff).

Removing knots?

I don't know how he does it, but my youger Cavalier gets the biggest knots in the hair on his ears (its usually the right side..not that the side really matters). I admit that I am a slacker when it comes to daily brushings, but when I do try to brush him, he becomes a big baby and runs away. Does anyone have any trade secrets to get him to clam down or any tools to suggest. Having to bring him to the groomer's with these knots is a little embarrassing at times.

Treats that stain carpet?

Has anyone had issues with flavored rawhides that end up staining upholstry or lighter colored carpets when giving them to their dogs? I usually buy the basic rawhides for my dogs, in part, to keep the furniture clean.

Call of Duty World At War

COD World at War came out earlier this week. I've been playing it off and on since Tuesday. The game rocks. Having to learn all new maps is brutal, but quite fun. I started playing Tuesday night at about 6:30 and there were already people online at level 20 or higher. Don't you have jobs????

Taylor Swift's 2nd CD was released today. I can't wait to get it, she is amazing. She was on the Ellen Show today and said that the main Jonas brother broke up with her over the phone in 25 seconds. She is way better and better looking than the Jonas brothers.

Star Trek

I went to a sneak preview of Star Trek on Thursday. I have to say, it's a great movie. Non-trekkies will love it. You don't have to be a hard-core geek to love this movie. It is so well done. The pacing is great, the action is awesome and the story is genius. I highly recommend it.

The big Chicagoland Pet Expo will be in Arlington Heights next weekend from Fri-Sun. I'm excited to check this out for the first time, as I have heard that there is a bit of everything there...with its fair share of 'crazy' pet owners too...lol!

NCAA Tourney

Is there any argument that we are about to begin the most entertaining 3 or so weeks in sports? As the NCAA conference tournaments are currently going on (and btw, how about that 6 OT game last night with UConn and 'Cuse) and selection Sunday is right around the corner, the NCAA tournament brings together what sports is all about. Can the favorites win the games they are supposed to win on paper, can an obscure team up jump and shock a few bigger name teams in the opening weekend, and who will have lady luck on their side for a few weekends? The field of 64 + 1 allows both hardcore sports fans and casual fans come together alike and enjoy great collegiate competition...and hey, its a gambler's paradise too!

I picked up Resistance 2 at a going out of business Circuit City a bit ago... I haven't had the time to play it yet (it was on sale so I snagged it). Has anyone out there played it? I loved the first one, but dropped it because I got hooked on Call of Duty
